Quebec mother arrested after allegedly trying to drown her children in bathtub

SAINT-EUSTACHE, Que. - Police say a 31-year-old Quebec woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to drown herself and her two children in the family's bathtub.

Police were called to a home in Saint-Eustache, a suburb west of Montreal, just before 6 a.m. on Monday.

They say her husband was woken up by the children's screams.

The woman seemed to be under psychological distress and tried to take her own life along with her children's, police said.

Once out of harm's way, the woman was arrested and taken to hospital.

Police say the children were not injured but the province's department of youth protection is stepping in.
