THOMPSON, Man. - A Manitoba MP was supposed to be at at a ceremony to officially open an upgraded runway in Thompson, but fog cancelled his flight.
Minister of State for Transport Steven Fletcher said Tuesday from Ottawa that the $8.5 million the federal government gave to the Thompson Airport Authority to redo the runway was a good investment.
He says the Thompson airport is an important transportation hub for northern Manitoba and Nunavut.
The runway hadn't been replaced in many decades and was deteriorating.
It's the first step in a plan to revitalize the airport in Thompson — a new terminal building is currently in the planning stages.
