Premiers of B.C., Alberta to expand joint trade opportunities in Asia

CALGARY - The premiers of Canada's two western-most provinces hope to open more foreign offices to expand trade in the burgeoning Asia markets.

Christy Clark says B.C., Alberta, and Saskatchewan already have an office in Shanghai under their New West Partnership trade deal.

Clark says she wants to expand that throughout Asia, particularly to India.

Clark made the comments while in Calgary to meet new Alberta Premier Alison Redford.

Redford says Alberta is moving forward on all fronts to boost trade with Asia.

She said Alberta's trade office in Hong Kong will benefit from having former cabinet minister Gary Mar head it up.
