Toronto Argonauts star Chad Owens establishes pro football record

TORONTO - Chad Owens of the Toronto Argonauts has achieved a pro football first.

Owens became the first player in pro football history to accumulate 3,000 all-purpose yards in consecutive seasons.

Owens achieved the mark Friday night against Edmonton at Rogers Centre when he returned Damon Duval's 51-yard punt 36 yards with 5:53 left in the second quarter.

Owens needed just five yards on the return to reach the milestone and actually took it back 58 yards but Toronto was called for an illegal block on the play.

Owens came into the contest needing just 119 yards to reach the 3,000-yard plateau and made a huge dent in that total with a 46-yard reception in the first quarter.

Owens registered 3,288 all-purpose yards last season in being named the CFL's outstanding special-teams player.
