Planning in the works for emergency health care centre in Springhill, N.S.

HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia government says it will open a collaborative health centre in Springhill to provide emergency care for area residents.

The Cumberland Health Authority is working with the community and officials at the Department of Health and Wellness to develop plans for the centre.

The government says it will provide same-day or next-day medical appointments, and offer 24-hour emergency care.

Services will include access to doctors and nurse practitioners for 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

Nova Scotia's first collaborative centre opened in Parrsboro in July as a response to emergency room closures in the area.
