Quebec Care Worker Charged With Criminal Negligence

An orderly in Quebec City has been charged with criminal negligence causing death after a woman she was bathing fell and died.

Police charged the woman Tuesday in connection with an incident at the long-term home last year.

Quebec City police spokesperson Christine Lebrasseur said 87-year-old Geneviève Saillant died in hospital after hitting her head.

Crown prosecutor Geneviève Bédard said there is evidence of criminal negligence in the case.

“Well, if it were an accident, there wouldn’t be any accusations,” she said.

The 26-year-old woman had been working at the Côté Jardins on Painchaud Avenue for about two months when the incident took place, said Bédard.

The she is due back in court in January.

The long-term care home, which fired the worker, is expected to comment on Wednesday.
