The Cheat Sheet For Holiday Toys This Year
Toys

November marks the start of the official holiday shopping season, and as much as people may groan about it starting too soon, they also appreciate all the help they can get in the "making their lists" department.

Thankfully, there are toy companies and associations to anticipate our every need. Both Toys "R" Us and the Canadian Toy Association released their lists of hot toys to place under the tree this week, providing options for almost any price point and age.

Included in the Canadian Holiday Hot 20 Toys for Toys "R" Us were recognizable choices like Let's Rock! Elmo -- the latest incarnation of the perpetual favourite -- and the LeapPad Explorer from LeapFrog, a computer-like toy featuring games and activities that might just trick your child into learning.

On the more traditional side, plush toys like Smurfs, Moshi Monsters and the Lalaloopsy Doll will still find their place next to children's pillows, while Air Hogs and Stars Wars-themed Lego packs get interactive.

For the Canadian Toy Association's more extensive list of 105 options, toys were divided into categories: Activity, Arts, Construction, Dolls & Plush, Educational, Electronic, Games and Preschool. According to the Canadian Press, association vice-chair Kerry George noted that retro dolls for girls like troll-type dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids are making a comeback.

Meanwhile, Squidoo has compiled lists of the predicted best-selling toys for the holidays this year -- it'll be interesting to see how that shapes up as the season truly gets rolling.
