A 34-year-old man has been officially charged with the second-degree murders of his ex-girlfriend and her daughter.

The bodies of Emmanuelle Phaneuf and her 13-year-old daughter, Laurie, were discovered in their Longueuil apartment Friday morning.

François Tartamella was taken into custody that day and formally charged Monday.

Tartamella, who appeared at the hearing in a wheelchair, did not enter a plea in connection with the murder charges.

He did not ask for bail.

He's due back in court in a month.
