Huefner leads German 1-2 finish ahead of Wischnewski at season-opening World Cup luge race

IGLS, Austria - Olympic luge champion Tatjana Huefner led a German 1-2 finish ahead of Anke Wischnewski at the season-opening women's World Cup race on Saturday.

Huefner, who won seven of nine races last season to land her fourth overall World Cup title, posted the fastest time in both runs and finished in an aggregate 1 minute, 19.353 seconds to beat Wischnewski by 0.201.

Alex Gough of Canada finshed another 0.074 back in third, and former world champion Erin Hamlin of the United States took seventh, 0.574 behind Huefner.

A men's doubles race was scheduled for later Saturday.
