Man United drops valuable Premier League points with 1-1 draw against Newcastle; Spurs win

LONDON - Manchester United dropped two valuable points in the Premier League title chase on Saturday when Newcastle held out for a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Mexico striker Javier Hernandez put United ahead but Newcastle equalized through a contentious penalty from Demba Ba, allowing third-place Tottenham to move within two points of the defending champions with a 3-1 win at West Bromwich Albion.

The result left United four points behind Manchester City, which plays Sunday at Liverpool. Newcastle stayed fourth, with fifth-place Chelsea recording just its second win in five Premier League matches with a 3-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wigan beat Sunderland 2-1 and was replaced at the bottom of the standings by Blackburn, which lost 3-1 at Stoke.
