Well, it's officially winter coat season. I don't know about you on the East Coast, but it's chilly here in Vancouver! I always find the search for a new coat a bit of a science.
The goal should be to remain stylish yet practical, ready for the elements, but, at the same time, ready for the spotlight... you get what I mean. Avoid wearing TOO trendy of a style and try to pick classic, quality coats to last you through to next winter! I've narrowed my favourite styles down to three this season.
Here are my top picks:
Bright Hues
Avoid getting caught up in the dark, dreariness of winter and stand out wearing a crisp, bright colour! Wearing a vibrant colour really spices things up. I love this MICHAEL Michael Kors fuchsia trench coat ($400, Net-a-Porter). This would look fabulous paired with cream trousers or leggings and boots. Michael Michael Kors Satin Trench Coat, $200, net-a-porter.com.
Cape Style
Think classy, comfortable, Sherlock Holmes-chic. Leave the magnifying glass at home and rock the cape coat over a dark turtle neck or a shift dress. Added points when wearing anything camel-coloured. This cape from J. Crew ($200, Net-a-Porter) is perfection. J.Crew Knitted Wool Cape, $200, net-a-porter.com.
Trench Coat
The most classic of silhouettes. The trench coat is an iconic style, and is foul-proof when thrown on over any outfit. Wear with a wooly sweater underneath in chillier temperatures. Finish off the look with a plaid scarf or close the coat with your own belt for added personalization! J. Crew Encore cotton-twill trench coat, $400, net-a-porter.com.
Happy coat hunting!
