Five Canadians charged in marijuana smuggling operation into US

ALBANY, N.Y. - Five Canadians face felony charges of running a multimillion-dollar operation smuggling marijuana into the United States.

Authorities say four men were arrested Tuesday in Quebec and a fifth was arrested in June in Florida.

They are accused of conspiring to possess and distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana as well as money laundering.

Charged are 45-year-old Jacques Perreault, 67-year-old Yvan Chandler, 63-year-old Denis Vachon and 63-year-old Nick Varacalli.

They were arrested by the RCMP and are expected to face extradition.

Already in U.S. custody following his Florida arrest is Michel Cote.
