CONI anti-doping prosecutor seeks 4-year ban for Androni cycling team manager Giovanni Savio

ROME - The Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping prosecutor has recommended a four-year ban for Androni Giocattoli cycling team manager Giovanni Savio.

Savio was accused of sponsoring doping activities by one of his former riders, Luca De Angeli, in a court case in the Tuscan town of Massa.

De Angeli was banned for two years and fired by Savio's team after testing positive for EPO in 2005.

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, De Angeli later asked Savio for money to help battle psychological problems caused by doping.

Savio tells the Gazzetta he was never involved with doping and adds that he is confident new proof presented in the Massa court case will help clear him.
