Search and rescue crews are combing the banks of the Black River just east of Saint-Hyacinthe, Que., looking for a six-year-old boy who is missing after trying to save his dog.
Police said it appears the child fell into the river early Monday evening.
The boy was playing near the river with his 10-year-old brother just before he went missing.
Police said both boys were trying to rescue their dog, which had wandered out onto an ice floe and is also missing.
Quebec provincial police are using a helicopter to search for the boy and firefighters are on the water with rescue boats.
Police are asking anyone living along the river to help with the search by scanning the water.
