Vancouver Island Police Hunt Missing Teen

A Vancouver Island family is desperately seeking their missing daughter this Christmas, and police are concerned she may be with a dangerous man.

Rebeccah Ankersen, who turned 15 recently, may be in the company of Ryan Racette, 30, who is on the "most-wanted" list of police in Saanich, a Victoria suburb.

Sgt. Scott Treble said the pair, if together, have been on the run for nine days already.

"Her family's concerns and the concerns we hold is that she's 14 — just turned 15 a few days ago — and his age is 30," Treble said. "He has a serious criminal history and there are other issues that put her at risk for being with him and on the run."

Treble said Racette's crimes include robbery and burglary.

"He has a serious criminal history. It goes back about 13 years in Manitoba, and he's presently wanted right now for breaches — four different breaches — so he does have a history of violence that concerns us," Treble said.

Racette is wanted on a B.C.-wide arrest warrant and has a bail order prohibiting him from seeing Rebeccah, Treble said.

A possible sighting of the pair was reported in Nanaimo, B.C., Friday morning.
