Make-shift bomb blows up patio in Abbotsford, B.C.

A homemade explosive damaged a home in Abbotsford, B.C., early Saturday morning.

Police were called to a report of an explosion at a unit in a housing complex in the 33200 block of Maclure Road, at 6:45 a.m. PT.

Const. Ian MacDonald said responding officers found a small, make-shift device had blown apart and damaged the patio and rear of a townhouse.

"There had been a deployment of a small makeshift-type explosive," he said.

"They began the search for secondary explosives or the possibility of secondary explosives, as well as any suspect or persons or vehicles responsible for deploying that explosive."

Patrol officers and a dog unit investigated the property and found no one had been injured.

The RCMP's explosive disposal unit is investigating, along with the Abbotsford police major crime unit.
