California child molestation suspect arrested in Quebec City

QUEBEC CITY, Que. - An American martial arts instructor facing child molestation allegations in California has been arrested in Quebec City.

Quebec City Police say Umar Love, 30, was arrested at about 5 a.m. Saturday morning at a hotel located on Hamel Boulevard, near the city's Jean Lesage International Airport.

Love was first arrested on Dec. 14 in Apple Valley, Calif, on suspicion of committing lewd acts on a child, after a 14-year-old girl reported she was molested by the owner of Evolved Martial Arts. He was released on bail.

A week later, Love skipped bail and San Bernardino County sheriff's investigators issued a US$750,000 arrest warrant.

U.S. investigators say five other girls aged 14 to 16 have come forward with allegations of sexual assault against the Southern California man.

Quebec City Police spokeswoman Catherine Viel said Monday that an anonymous 911 caller led police to the hotel where Love surrendered without incident.

Viel said the American has been handed over to Immigration Canada agents.
