Five people are now homeless after an early morning row house fire in south Ottawa.
Firefighters responded to a six-unit complex at 3520 Downpatrick Road, just off Hunt Club Road, a little before 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Smoke and flames were seen billowing out of one unit before firefighters arrived. All residents had escaped their units by then.
The fire was quickly upgraded to a third alarm as firefighters battled the blaze for about two hours before knocking it down.
Paramedics treated one woman, 29, for breathing problems and she is in stable condition in hospital.
At least one unit is destroyed and the cause is currently under investigation.
Total damage is estimated at $750,000.
