Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner arrested last September following a brawl at a hotel

SUNDERLAND, England - Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner was arrested last year but released by police without charge following a fight at a hotel.

Northumbria police arrested two 23-year-old men, one of whom was Bendtner, on Sept. 13 "to prevent a continued breach of the peace" at a hotel in Gateshead, near Newcastle. They were released after an investigation, police said Thursday.

Bendtner's press manager, Jesper Lynghus, said "an angry football enthusiast threw himself at Nicklas in a hotel lobby back in September."

"Both were taken to a detention after which they both were sent home again without charge," Lynghus said in an email to a Danish celebrity magazine.

Bendtner is currently on bail along with Sunderland teammate Lee Cattermole after being arrested in December on suspicion of damaging cars near the stadium of their club's Premier League rival, Newcastle.

The Denmark international is on loan at Sunderland from Arsenal.
