Pickering Farmhouse With Captive Chamber

PICKERING, Ont. - An old abandoned farmhouse east of Toronto that contained what police believed was a room meant to hold someone captive has been destroyed by fire.

Durham police say emergency crews found the northwest Pickering home engulfed in flames around 1:45 a.m.

The blaze is considered suspicious.

Last month, police began an investigation into a strange room discovered in the home’s basement.

Police said the room was recently built and looked like it was "solely designed to hold someone captive."

Contractors surveying the property stumbled upon the room in the farmhouse, which was slated for demolition. (CKDO, The Canadian Press)
