A man is in hospital after being shot during what investigators say was "an interaction" with Toronto police at a plaza on Weston Road, just south of Highway 401.
Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is now probing the circumstances surrounding the Friday afternoon shooting.
The SIU investigates all incidents involving police in which a death or serious injury occurs, or allegations of sexual assault are raised.
Early reports say police were called to the Weston Road plaza just before 12:30 p.m.
An SIU news release said that the officers were on patrol when they saw the man at the plaza.
The SIU said there was “an interaction” between the man and the police at the back of the plaza.
The man then “made his way towards Weston Road” and police fired several shots.
The SIU said the man was taken to hospital for treatment. Witnesses are asked to call SIU investigators at 416-622-1957, or at 1-800-787-8529, ext. 1957.
