A sea otter from the Vancouver Aquarium who captured the hearts of millions of people on Youtube has passed away. Back in 2007, a visitor posted a video of two sea otters holding paws. The video became an internet hit and today has 16 million views.
Milo, one half of the paw-holding otters, received chemotherapeutic care in Vancouver, according to the aquarium’s website. He died at the Vancouver Aquarium on Wednesday.
The aquarium’s website claims Milo was the first of his kind to be diagnosed with lymphoma and the first to be treated using chemotherapy.
“Our team, especially those who worked closely with Milo during the past months to provide specialized care while he was receiving treatment, are saddened by his death but take solace in his peaceful departure,” Clint Wright, the aquarium’s senior vice-president, said in a release.
Nyac, the other otter in the famous video, died in 2008.
