Cape Breton group opposed to gas drilling to hold rallies against project

SYDNEY, N.S. - A Cape Breton environmental group will hold rallies in Halifax and at the Canso causeway on Saturday to oppose oil and gas exploration near Lake Ainslie.

The Margaree Environmental Association is fighting a decision by the provincial government that allows Petroworth Resources to drill a 1,200-metre test well about 80 kilometres west of Sydney.

Robert Parkins of the Margaree Environmental Association says the rallies are intended to boost awareness of the government's decision.

The group has also launched an appeal to the Nova Scotia Supreme Court asking the decision to be quashed.
