Florida player's stolen 2001 Orange Bowl ring recovered in London, Ont.

LONDON, Ont. - Police in London, Ont., say a 2001 Orange Bowl ring stolen from a former Florida State University player has been recovered.

Police say a London resident spotted the championship football ring for sale on the London Kijiji online classifieds.

The ring had the player's jersey number and last name inscribed on the side. It had been issued to FSU nosetackle Jeff Womble, No. 91.

Investigators say the resident contacted the Kijiji seller and made arrangements to meet and buy the ring for $1,500 with the intention of returning it to Womble as a "new year - pay it forward gesture."

However, Womble suggested getting local police involved so no one would be out any money to get the ring back.

London police contacted the seller and recovered the ring from a London resident who had acquired it through a private sale several years ago. The ring is being returned to Womble.
