Downtown main break causing commuter chaos

A water main break in downtown Montreal is causing traffic chaos as commuters make their way in from the east end.

The main on Viger Avenue burst Thursday morning, forcing emergency crews to shut down the road between Panet Street and Hôtel-de-Ville Avenue.

Police are redirecting traffic north or into the Ville Marie tunnel.

Crews are on site tearing up concrete to get at the break.

There’s no word on when the repairs will be completed.
