Statistics Canada says Canadian travel abroad rose in November

OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says out-of-country travel by Canadians increased 0.8 per cent to five million trips in November, compared with the previous month.

Canadians made 782,000 trips overseas in November, up 1.6 per cent, while travel to the United States rose 0.6 per cent to 4.2 million trips.

Overnight travel to the United States rose 2.1 per cent to 1.8 million trips, the first increase since July.

Canadians took 2.4 million same-day car trips to the United States in November, down 0.4 per cent from October.

Foreign travel to Canada declined 0.1 per cent, to just over two million trips, because travel by Americans slipped 0.4 per cent to 1.6 million trips.

Residents of countries other than the United States made 383,000 trips to Canada in November, up 1.1 per cent from October.
