A Northern Ontario couple feared missing near the U.S.-Mexican border has contacted Texas police to let them know they are alive and well.
Police in Weslaco say Bruce and Linda Stewart of the Fort Frances area contacted them earlier Sunday.
Family and friends hadn't heard from the couple for about five weeks. They had last been seen in a Texas trailer park near the Mexican border.
Weslaco police wouldn't give further details, but dispatcher Derek Galvan told CBC News the department will issue a news release on Monday morning. He also confirmed that the couple are still in Texas.
Family friend Charlene Wood said Linda Stewart contacted her son, Bill Marshall, in British Columbia.
Wood said they told him they have been in a remote area of Texas with no available internet and had trouble with their phone.
