New program at University of Saskatchewan promotes women in politics

REGINA - A pair of University of Saskatchewan students have started a program aimed at getting more women interested in politics.

Heather Franklin and Shira Feyes, both political studies majors, say the program called "Women in Legislature" will have undergraduate students shadow provincial MLAs this spring.

The pair note that although half the population is female, women hold a mere 20 per cent of the seats in the Saskatchewan legislature.

Franklin says they got the idea from their professor, Loleen Berdahl, who told them about a similar program at McGill University in Montreal.
