Robbie Burns Day: Take The Time For Whisky

Whisky For Robbie Burns Day: Learn How To Actually Drink It

It seems like everywhere you turn these days, someone is trying to turn you into a connoisseur in one area or another. It's not enough just to drink a cup of coffee anymore -- you must discern whether or not the beans come from a single origin. And forget just buying a loaf of bread at the grocery store -- you'll need to know the amount of leaven inside and how long it fermented for.

So, in honour of Robbie Burns Day on January 25, the Huffington Post Canada is learning from this video on whisky expertise from the folks at the Balvenie Whisky Academy. It seems only appropriate to gather together a crew and take a tipple on this day of celebration for the 18th-century Scottish poet, and if you can actually learn a thing or two about the nuances of whisky -- so much the better.

But if traditional food is more your style than knocking back glasses of 40 per cent alcohol, we also have a collection of recipes for you to try out (or convince a friend to make -- we're looking at you, haggis). It may take a bit of work, but as the great man himself said, "Dare to be honest, and fear no labor."
