The French Football League (LFP) said in a statement Thursday that Al-Jazeera has acquired rights for an additional six live league games per round on pay-per-view, as well as a weekly football TV show. No financial details were given, although French newspaper L'Equipe reported that the deal was worth €240 million ($315 million).
The broadcaster already had rights to two games per round, while Canal Plus has previously showed the rest. Canal Plus retained the rights to two matches per week.
Al-Jazeera's deal continues its buying spree of sports media rights in France. It already has bought international rights to screen French league games and French rights to show the Champions League for three seasons.
Al-Jazeera has Middle East and North African rights for the Champions League.
