UPDATE: Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Sam has broken the tie. The east coast's Groundhog Day mascot is also predicting an early spring.
The Canadian predictors aren't alone. Georgia's General Beauregard Lee, the only rodent with a military rank, is also predicting an early spring.
Canada's most famous groundhog, Wiarton Willie, is predicting an early spring. He made the bold prediction shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow and is predicting another six weeks of winter. The critter popped out of his hole at 7:25 a.m. ET and gave the forecast, reported the Washington Post.
Ah Groundhog Day, the holiday that proves that years of studying weather and thousands of dollars of forecasting equipment can be trumped by a fuzzy rodent poking out of his burrow.
Lets face it, most of Canada has had a mild winter so we're not as desperate for an early spring. Still we'll be watching out to see if Wiarton Willie, Canada's leading rodent prognosticator will tell us that we can put the parkas and big winter boots away.
Down south, our American friends will be keeping an eye on the legendary Punxsutawney Phil. If Phil, or any of the other groundhogs, see their shadow then we've got another six weeks of winter. No shadow and you can start your spring cleaning.
