BC Ferries cancels Powell River-Comox sailings

BC Ferries has cancelled all sailings between Comox and Powell River on Monday because of mechanical issues on the Queen of Burnaby.

The ferry company says they're working on an alternate plan for travellers, but Powell River resident Ken White says it is already too late for him to make a long-awaited specialist's appointment in Comox.

"I found out to my horror that the Queen of Burnaby is out of action for the entire day. And that ferry just came out of a billion dollar refit and I'd like to know why it's broken down," said White.

The Queen of Burnaby was launched in 1965 and underwent a refit in 2011, which in fact cost an estimated $12 million.
