Norway's Marit Bjoergen wins 15K classical style World Cup race to regain overall lead

NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic - Marit Bjoergen of Norway won the women's 15-kilometre mass start event on Saturday to regain the overall World Cup lead.

Bjoergen battled Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland until she pulled away from her major rival shortly before the finish line to complete the classical style race in 39 minutes, 20.3 seconds.

Kowalczyk, who was leading the overall standings by 2 points before the race was 4.0 seconds back and another Norwegian, Therese Johaug, was 14.3 seconds behind in third.

Bjoergen leads the overall standings with 1,804 points. Kowalczyk is second with 1,792 and Johaug third on 1,320.

Bjoergen says: "It's good to have (the lead) it back."

The men's 30-kilometre race is scheduled for later Saturday.
