Power play: Alberta NDP asks people to fax in high power bills

EDMONTON - Alberta's NDP wants your power bill.

Party leader Brian Mason says taxpayers unhappy with their rising electricity bills can fax them to the New Democrats, who will table them in the legislature.

Mason says the goal is to draw attention to the bills, some of which he says have doubled in a year.

The party says the problem started 15 years ago when the Progressive Conservative government deregulated the industry.

The result, says Mason, has been a for-profit monopoly that has led to predatory pricing.

Mason says his party is pushing to reregulate the industry, starting with immediate price controls.
