Toronto's 6,000 outside workers vote today on tentative agreement

TORONTO - Toronto's outside workers will hold a ratification vote today on a tentative settlement reached last Thursday.

No details will be released until the vote results are made public.

The tentative deal averted a possible work stoppage involving about 6,000 garbage collectors, snow plow operators and other outside workers.

The city had threatened to impose terms of its latest contract offer if there was no deal by 12:01 a.m. Sunday but the deadline was twice extended until a deal was reached.

Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 416 says voting results are expected to be announced at about 10:30 p.m.

Negotiations continue with the union representing Toronto’s 23,000 inside workers.
