Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Authors Celebrate By Reading Out Loud

One Fish Two Fish -- Celebrate Dr. Seuss's Birthday!

Is Dr. Seuss the most "read aloud" author ever? Between the illustrations, the easy-to-follow words and the surprisingly character-rich plots, Dr. Seuss's books have created a bedtime tradition for so many children and parents.

So, in honour of what would have been Theodore Seuss Geisel's 108th birthday, Random House Canada has put the book in its "natural" state and brought together three diverse authors - Kevin O'Leary, Ami McKay, and Erin Morgenstern -- to read the classic One Fish Two Fish aloud in a video. It's a good opportunity to indulge in a bit of nostalgia and watch the imaginative illustrations onscreen, in their original etchings.

With his green-before-its-time book, The Lorax, just released an animated film and inspiring a whole new generation (despite also being used to sell cars), Dr. Seuss is still a pop culture force to be reckoned with. His artwork, in the form of pictures, sculptures and "taxidermy" can be found at galleries across North America, and this birthday always loosely corresponds with "Read Across America Day," made up of events dedicated to kids reading.

As the man himself wrote in Happy Birthday To You!, "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You."
