Focus on the Markets

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was down 57-100ths to close at 100.58 cents U-S on Monday.

The S-and-P/T-S-X composite index fell 119.87 points to 12,523.95.

Volume at 4:15 p.m. ET was 356.6 (m) million shares, valued at $4.83 (b) billion dollars.

In New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 12,962.81, down 14.76 points.

The Nasdaq composite index was down 25.71 points at 2,950.48.

New York gold futures prices down five dollars, 90 cents, to 1,703 dollars, 90 cents U-S an ounce on the April contract.

Oil went up two cents on the April contract to close at 106 dollars, 72 cents U-S.

Canola futures were higher from up four dollars, 10 cents, to four dollars, 80 cents.

Western barley closed unchanged.
