B.C. Mountie charged with assaulting teen

Crown counsel has approved a charge against a Williams Lake RCMP Constable, for an alleged assault against a teenage girl.

Const. Andy Yung is accused of punching 17-year-old Jamie Haller, after she had been arrested, handcuffed and put in the back of a police cruiser in September, 2011.

Abbotsford police investigated the incident, which Const. Ian MacDonald said was challenging because accounts from the officer and the teen varied wildly. On Wednesday, the police department recommended Yung be charged with assault.

An internal RCMP code of conduct investigation is underway, and Yung is expected to make his first court appearance in Williams Lake, April 11.
