Pedestrian, 75, killed in Vancouver

Vancouver police are investigating after a 75-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed Friday evening.

Police say the woman, whose name has not been released, was struck while crossing the intersection of East 41st Avenue and Ross Street.

The woman was walking northbound on Ross Street through a marked crosswalk when she was struck by an eastbound minivan, according to police. She was rushed to hospital where she later died.

The driver remained at the scene to assist in the investigation. Police say speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.

This is the third traffic fatality of 2012.
