Scots, Swedes, Czechs, Germans open women's world curling champions with wins

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. - Sweden, Scotland, Germany and the Czech Republic opened the Ford World Women's Curling Championship with wins Saturday.

Canada's Heather Nedohin was to play the United States in the evening draw.

Germany, skipped by Canadian-born Melanie Robillard, doubled Denmark's Lene Nielson 6-3.

Scotland's Eve Muirhead got by Russia's Anna Sidorova 8-7.

Sweden's Margaretha Sigfriddson beat Italy's Diana Gaspari 9-3.

Linda Klimova of the Czech Republic defeated Ji-Sun Kim of South Korea 6-3.
