Two Saskatchewan hospitals agree to continue alternating ER services

WYNYARD, Sask. - Doctors in two Saskatchewan communities have agreed to keep sharing emergency room duties.

A doctor shortage in Wynyard last fall threatened to leave the hospital without adequate ER care.

The two physicians left in Wynyard and the two in nearby Wadena decided to work together to keep each community's emergency department open ever other week.

The Saskatoon Health Region says it has been searching for more doctors, but there are no prospects yet.

A health region spokesman says there will be a temporary doctor coming to Wadena over the summer months.

Residents are being asked to use the emergency rooms for serious cases only — no sore throats, mild fevers or minor cuts and scrapes.
