Three more charged in Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver; total now 78

VANCOUVER - The Crown has approved charges against three more people in last year's Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver.

The latest suspects are from Surrey, Delta and Abbotsford and range in age from 19 to 38.

They bring to 78 the number of people who have been charged in the violence, while the Vancouver police continue to work to identify more rioters for possible charges.

Two people have pleaded guilty to taking part in the riot, in which stores were looted and several cars were set ablaze.

Earlier this week, the city of Vancouver outlined a plan to avoid a repeat of the riot if the Vancouver Canucks advance deep into this year's playoffs.

The plan includes a crackdown on people carrying alcohol, and small block party and community centre events instead of inviting thousands of people into the city's downtown to watch games on giant TV screens.
