Quakes Strike Off West Coast

Three earthquakes have been recorded off the West Coast of North America, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A 7.0 quake was reported at about 3:55 p.m. PT off the coast of Mexico Wednesday afternoon, with tremors rattling as far inland as Mexico City, sending occupants fleeing from buildings, reports said.

The USGS also reported that earlier, at about 1:42 p.m. PT, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Oregon and was followed a minute later by a smaller quake off the coast of central California.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the quakes were unlikely to trigger a tsunami.

There have been no reports yet of injuries or damage.
