EDMONTON - Alberta's Liberal party is promising to bring a measure of free votes to the legislature.
Party leader Raj Sherman says if his team wins the April 23 vote, he would allow free votes on issues not related to the party platform.
He says they can't allow free votes on the platform because he considers it a binding contract signed with voters.
Sherman says the current system that mandates all party members vote as a bloc doesn't allow politicians to fight for the unique needs of their constituents.
The Liberals are also endorsing a system for voters to recall members of the legislature who are not representing their interests in the legislature.
The Wildrose party is also promising free votes along with citizen recall.
