Upstart Wildrose beats incumbent PCs in raising funds for election campaign

EDMONTON - The polls have yet to open in Alberta's provincial election, but the Wildrose party is already claiming victory _ at least in the fundraising battle.

Wildrose claims it received more than $2.3 million in donations from about 7,000 contributors.

The Progressive Conservatives say they raised $1.8 million.

Both parties say they received most of their funding from people who donated more the $375, the limit at which provincial law requires donations to be made public.

The Tories say a little over $1.5 million of their total came from donors who kicked in more than $375.

Wildrose says about $1.57 million of their $2.37 million total came in donations that exceeded $375.
