Loren Pearson, Navy Officer, Fined For Groping Female Sailor

ESQUIMALT, B.C. - A navy officer based in Esquimalt, B.C. has been fined $8,000 dollars and handed a reprimand for groping a female sailor aboard a Canadian warship during a training mission last summer.

Lt. Loren Pearson pleaded guilty to the charges, which included assault and conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, at a court martial in Esquimalt.

The victim, whose identify is protected under court order, was under Pearson's supervision and training at the time.

Pearson admitted to making suggestive remarks to the woman, dancing uncomfortably closely and groping her buttocks in front of witnesses in the ship's wardroom.

Some of the incidents happened when the sailors were on shore during a stop in American Samoa in the south Pacific.

Pearson was returned home immediately when the ship's captain was made aware of the behaviour. (CFAX)
