Armed man in standoff with B.C. police

RCMP in Chase, B.C., say they have surrounded a bank after an armed man walked into the building.

A holdup alarm was activated and staff left the Royal Bank of Canada branch after the man entered in the late afternoon Thursday, said Sgt. Dan Moskaluk.

Moskauk said it's believed the man is in his 50s and is armed with a gun and a knife.

It's unclear what the man's motive is, Moskauk said.

Chase is about 300 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
