Toronto police officer struck on Gardiner

A Toronto police officer was taken to hospital early Monday morning with neck and back injuries after being struck on the Gardiner Expressway.

The incident happened in the westbound lanes near Colborne Lodge Road at about 1 a.m.

The officer was investigating a driver on a possible impaired charge when his cruiser was struck by an SUV.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the SUV is facing a number of charges.
