All 35 people stuck aboard cable cars near Quebec City safely back on the ground

QUEBEC CITY, Que. - Thirty-five people are safely on the ground after being stuck aboard a pair of cable cars at Montmorency Falls, about 10 kilometres northeast of Quebec City.

Fire officials say a mechanical problem caused the motors that power the cable cars to shut down just before 4 p.m.

Ten occupants in one cable car closest to the ground climbed down on their own.

But 25 people in the other cabin, about 18 metres high, had to descend one at a time with the help of a specialized team of firefighters.

The rescue operation ended just after 11 p.m. Monday night.
