Prince William drops a note to Slave Lake

Prince William has written to the residents of Slave Lake, Alta., wishing them the best on the anniversary of the wildfire which ravaged the town May 15, 2011.

"One year on from the disastrous fire that ravaged your town, Catherine and I send you, the people of Slave Lake, our heartfelt best wishes, in the hope and knowledge that through your fortitude and unquenchable spirit the recovery of your beautiful town is progressing well," he wrote.

"We both remember with such admiration the manner in which this great challenge of nature was met by the people of Slave Lake."

The note has been posted on the town's website.

The royal couple toured the town about seven weeks after the devastating fire.

William and his wife, Kate, also met with firefighters and families whose homes were destroyed, then greeted people along the street.
